The Quick and the Good
Last summer’s surprising smash-hit festival Fant-Asia is back with the same look, location and principal organizers, but with an added International component. With a healthy majority of Fant-Asia’s International section devoted to Italian horror I thought it would be appropriate to give some thoughts on Italian style horror, focusing on Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond, playing at the festival. Fantasia ’97 promises to be as spectacular as last year’s edition, cementing its claim to being the city’s most popular film festival of all time. Fantasia remains primarily an Asian festival, and Peter Rist examines the Hong Kong programming at Fantasia. Rounding out the issue is Donato Totaro’s industry analysis of the current state of the independent horror film.
